The University of Science and Technology of China (USTC), established by the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS) in 1958, is a top research university in China and enjoys a reputation of academic excellence worldwide.  It is consistently ranked as one of the best universities in China since its inception.  In recently years, USTC was ranked top among Chinese universities by Nature Publishing Index China. USTC is now recruiting a visionary and dynamic leader to serve as the founding Head of Faculty of Life Sciences and Medicine in USTC.  This person will provide academic and administrative leadership and direction to the Faculty of Life Sciences and Medicine as an independent academic unit and reports to the USTC president directly.  Priorities and opportunities for the Head include collaboratively crafting mission, vision, values, and strategic plan; establishing and advancing the administrative structure to support future directions; championing access, equity, and excellence throughout USTC education systems.

USTC invites applications and nominations of prominent scholars in the field of Life Sciences or Medicine with administrative experience as candidates for the position.  Qualified candidates should currently hold or have a tenured full professor position or equivalent in a leading research institution, with demonstrated academic excellence and achievement, as well as leadership experience.  The qualified candidate should be fluent in both English and Chinese in conducting academic activities; no restriction on person’s current citizenship.  The selected candidate will also hold a Chair Professor who can choose to run a research laboratory with guaranteed resources, in addition to fulfilling the responsibility of education and administration.  The initial appointment is for 5 years by the USTC President.
