6th Training Program for Potential Service and Employment in International Organizations-Opening Ceremony

    On 10th August, the opening ceremony of Chinese Academy of Science (CAS) 6th Training Program for Potential Service and Employment in International Organizations was held in USTC west campus activity centre. This event was co-hosted by Bureau of International Co-operation CAS and USTC, organized by School of Public Affairs (PAS). The attendees were TAN Tieniu, Deputy Secretary -General of CAS and Director of the Bureau of International Co-operation CAS; JIANG Yi, Professor of USTC; DONG Qi, researcher of the Bureau of International Co-operation CAS; all members of the trainees, delegates of PAS and volunteers who are international students of PAS. The host of the ceremony was SONG Wei, Dean of PAS.

    JIANG Yi, Professor of USTC, delivered his congratulations to the ceremony on behalf of USTC. He warmly welcomed all the guests and trainees from CAS. He said that USTC would actively integrate quality education resources, develop international relation in scientific field, and contribute in training a lot of diplomatic talents for CAS. He hopes trainees can be benefit from this program and become mainstay in international organizations.

    TAN Tieniu, Deputy Secretary-General of CAS, greeted the trainees who were selected through a very intense competition. He said the aim of this program is to make it as important as the Huangpu Military Academy to Chinese scientists who are interested in pursuing a career goal at an international organization. As CAS is putting forward internationalization, the results of previous five programs were in good words. He wants all the trainees to make full use of this precious opportunity and be active in international cooperation. They can obtain more international resources for Chinese scientific development in order to strengthen the voice of China and our impact in making international regulations.

    Professor Hector Steele, PhD of Columbia University, Attorney of Washington, spoke as the delegate of lecturers. He thought Chinese power is growing and Chinese scientists are playing significant role in the world. He said it is an honor to be here. He advised trainees to deal with culture diversity carefully to help them adapt in the international environment.

    LV Bo, researcher of Institute of Plasma Physics CAS , represented all the trainees to promise they will do their best during this training period as well as their future career.

    After the ceremony, TAN Tieniu, Deputy Secretary-General of CAS, gave a speech titled “Carrying out internationalization strategy to build a world leading CAS”. He introduced the trend at home and abroad, internationalization strategies, objectives of serving in international organizations and exchanges of CAS. He also analysed the situation of CAS international work and implement of “First Four” strategy. Then he stressed on the key points of CAS coming international exchanges.

    The Training Program for Potential Service and Employment in International Organizations has run successfully for five years in USTC. This time it has advanced teaching facilities and provides more practice exercises. It is a two-week closed program and all the classes are in English as international standards required. The lecturers are famous professors from different countries. Courses covers topics like globalization trend, diplomacy strategy, international scientific project management, organizational structure, crisis management, competition and negotiation skills, cross-cultural communication and intellectual property issues.
